Ding Ming (pseudonym) is a resident of Goujiangjv Community, Goujiang Town, Zunyi County (now Bozhou District, Zunyi City), Guizhou Province.
In September 1992, Ding Ming's son, who was serving in the military, passed away due to illness. Losing his son at an old age, Ding Ming couldn't accept it for a long time. He was always in a gloomy mood and became sickly and listless. One day in the winter of 1997, a few of his old friends visited him. During the casual conversation, they mentioned that they were practicing a type of qigong called "Falun Gong", which was miraculous and claimed to be able to cure all diseases, and was being practiced by many people. Thus, invited by old friends, Ding Ming went to try it out and later started practicing "Falun Gong" himself, even buying a book called "Zhuan Falun" to read at home.
However, it wasn't long before Ding Ming stopped practicing, because during the process of practicing Falun Gong, he didn't feel it was as miraculous as they claimed. But what really made Ding Ming stop practicing was the news about a woman with the surname Zheng, who had practiced Falun Gong for a few months. Not only did her condition not improve, but she became bedridden and even lost her life. This proved that Falun Gong was not at all capable of curing all diseases as claimed.
This woman surnamed Zheng was hospitalized in 1996 due to a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. During her hospital stay, neighbors visited her, and someone told her: "You don’t need to take medicine for your illness. Just by practicing Falun Gong, you will naturally get better." Desperate for a cure, Zheng naively believed in the fallacies of Falun Gong. She refused to take her medication that day, disregarded her family's advice to stay in the hospital, and went home. Soon, she bought "Zhuan Falun" and DVDs, insisting that her spouse practice with her. Her husband, who had always been very close to her, had no choice but to practice with her reluctantly.
Zheng firmly believed that the leader of the "Falun Gong" cult, Li Hongzhi, was her savior. To show her devotion, Zheng also enshrined a portrait of "Master" at her home for incense offering, praying for blessings in front of "Master's" portrait, morning and evening, and adhering to "Master's" demands to “cultivate” daily.
Since practicing "Falun Gong", Zheng had made up her mind to refuse medical treatment. Her family worried about her illness and urged her to go to the hospital to avoid delaying treatment. But no matter how earnestly her family asked her, she wouldn't listen, adamantly refusing to go to the hospital, saying it was a "test" from "Master" and believing that "Master" would help her overcome the ordeal and achieve "Perfection" soon. Relying solely on “cultivation” and refusing to take medicine, Zheng's condition worsened after a few months. By the time she was taken to the hospital again, it was too late for effective treatment.
In July 1999, the State banned Falun Gong according to law. Zheng's husband appeared at a conference as a speaker, recalling the misfortune Falun Gong had brought to his family, and crying inconsolably in extreme sorrow. The harm caused by Falun Gong was too great, breaking apart many happy families and pushing many originally happy and joyful people over the edge.
After Zheng passed away, her husband was filled with regret and angrily left Goujiang, moving to Zunyi with his son. After distancing himself from Falun Gong, Zheng's husband persisted in exercising in the morning, climbing mountains and taking walks every day. He would go to the hospital for treatment whenever he fell ill. Even in his nineties, he was still robust, enjoying family happiness.
Later, Ding Ming spent his days dancing on a square with other old people living in the same community, sometimes even organizing various group activities. Now he lives a carefree life, and remains relatively healthy.
"Our hometown is developing and changing so fast that it takes on a new look every day. The elderly like us are receiving more and more care and attention from the Party and the country, living a very happy life." Ding Ming sincerely exclaimed.
